Day 1 – October 31 – Sightseeing tour of Sofia including the Boayna church and the National Historical Museum – departure to the Rila monastery

In the morning pick up from your hotel.

Visit the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral – the biggest and the most beautiful on the Balkan Peninsula, the Monument of Alexander II – Tzar Liberator, the Parliament, The Statue of St Sofia – the symbol of the city, the Presidency, the National Theater, the Ruins of Serdica and the Rotonda St George 4th c. AC, the Synagogue, the Russian Church, the St. Sophia early Christian basilica, which has given the city its name.

Drive to the vicinity of Sofia. Your next stop is the National historical museum situated nearby. Visit the Boyana church (UNESCO) and admire its beautiful paintings from 1259.

Departure to the Rila Monastery – the richest historical and architectural monument of the Orthodox enclave, founded in 10th century and transformed to the most important spiritual and cultural center of Bulgaria. The visitor’s first sight of Rila monastery huge towering walls gives the impression of a fortress. However, a step through the archway produces a wonderful surprise. The Monastery’s unrivalled architecture and murals will captivate you. Overnight in the Rila monastery.

Day 2 – November 1 – the Rila monastery – the Rozhen monastery – Thessaloniki

In the morning visit the Rozhen monastery situated 6 km from Melnik. Visit the monastery and admire its very beautiful frescoes and the old iconostas. In the little town of Melnik (the smallest in Bulgaria) visit the Kordopulova house – the oldest Revival house in Bulgaria built in 1754. After lunch preceed to the Greek border. Continue to Thessaloniki. Afternoon at leaisure.

Day 3 – November 2 – Free day in Thessaloniki to explore the city on your own.

Visit the St Sophia church with its beautiful mosaics, the Rotonda St George, the Arch of Galerius, the Palace of Galerius and many more landmarks that have given the statute of Thessaloniki a UNESCO site.

Day 4 – November 3 – Thessaloniki – the Bachkovo monastery – Plovdiv

After breakfast departure to Bulgaria via Kavala. Cross the border at Makaza and proceed to the town of Asenovgrad. Next to it is the Bachkovo monastery – the second biggest in Bulgaria founded in 1083. Still beautifully preserved is the Refectory where one can admire beautiful paintings from 1643. Continue to Plovdiv. Accommodation. Overnight.

Day 5 – November 4 – Plovdiv – Kazanlak – Dryanovo monastery – Veliko Tarnovo

In the morning take a sightseeing tour of Plovdiv – the second largest town of Bulgaria, an area since the time of Philip, King of Macedonia, father of Alexander The Great. The most impressive building of Roman time that has come to us rising above the city is the Antique theatre by Emperor Mark Avrelii during the 2nd c. A.D. Its magnificent arcade adorned with marble statues is simply breath-taking. You will also visit the Roman Stadium dating to the 2nd cetury, the yellow school, the house of La Martine, the Old Pharmacie, the church St Constantin and Helena, the house of Kuyumdjioglu, today turned into museum, the Nebet tepe where have been discovered parts of the Thracian walls that fortified the hill.

Departure to Kazanlak. Visit the Russian church situated in the foothills of the Stara Planian mountain (the Balkan Range). It was built in 1902 to commemorate all the 200 000 soldiers who lost their lives for the liberation of Bulgaria. Optional if time permits : After crossing the Shipka pass visit the open air museum « Etara » where have been presented 15 crafts practiced by the locals in the 17th – 19th century – weaving, cutlery, icon painting, saw mill and others.  Your next stop will be the Dryanovo monastery “Sveti Arhangel Mihail” – situated in the picturesque gorge of Dryanovo River in Stara Planina. The monastery was founded in the 12th century and gradually became centre of the Hesychasm. During the Ottoman slavery, the monastery was conflagrated twice and it was built at its present place in the 17th century. The history of this captivating holy site is closely connected with the National Liberation Movement. The monastery was one of the headquarters of the Tarnovo revolutionary committee. The Apostle of Liberty, Vasil Levski and his adherents often stayed in the monastery. During the April Uprising several surviving rebels repulsed the attacks of the numerous Turkish army only in nine days.

Proceed to Veliko Tarnovo. Accommodation. Overnight.

Day 6 – November 5 – Veliko Tarnovo – the Troayn Monatsery – Sofia

Departure to the Troyan Monastery, the third largest monastery in Bulgaria, situated in the northern part of the country in the Balkan Mountains. It was founded in the end of the 16th century. The main church of the monastery was reconstructed during the Bulgarian National Revival period by a master-builder called Konstantin in 1835 soon after the decline of Ottoman Rule was marked. The richly decorated interior and exterior of the church were painted between 1847 and 1849 by the great Bulgarian icon-painter Zahari Zograph. The Troyan Monastery has been keeping one of the holiest icons in Bulgarian Orthodoxy, the Three-Handed Virgin since the 17th century. It is also famous for its incredible wood-carving. The oldest carving is the marvelous wood carved iconostas of the chapel „St.Nikola” which is distinguished with its genuine artistic qualities.

The travel arrangement and full-day or half-day tours will be officially booked once we have received a 30% deposit payment. After that you will receive a booking confirmation via e-mail. We kindly ask you to pay the balance not later than 7 days prior to your arrival, unless the booking is made 1 week prior to your arrival or if there is not an agreement for paying cash upon arrival. Once we have received the payment, we will send the following to your e-mail address: the invoice, the vouchers (if you have booked self guided tour), and all the other necessary travel-related documents and information.

Cancellation Policy

The customer can cancel the travel arrangement and full-day or half-day tour at any moment; however, Easy Bulgaria Travel shall keep a certain portion of the paid amount which will depend on the cancellation period, and which is specified as follows:

7 days prior to departure – no cancellation fee will be applied

7 – 3  days prior to departure – 30 % of the price of a travel arrangement or tour

3 to 0 days prior to departure – 100 % of the price of a travel arrangement or tour

After the departure or no-show – 100 % of the price of a travel arrangement or tour

In cases of extraordinary circumstances (like flood, fire, earthquake or other), Easy Bulgaria Travel Ltd reserves the right to change itineraries.
