DEATILED ITINERARY OF THE Classic Bulgaria TOUR:

Day 1 – Arrive and tour of Sofia

Arrive at the Sofia airport. Meet and greet by your professional guide. Transfer to the hotel. Check in and short time for refreshment. Enjoy walking sightseeing tour of Sofia including the Cathedral St. Alexander Nevski and the Rotonda St. George – one of the oldest churches in Europe. Admire the most recent Roman excavations in the central part and get acquainted with the millenarian history of Sofia. (B)

Day 2 – Day tour to the Rila monastery

Full day tour to the Rila Monastery – the richest historical and architectural monument of the Orthodox enclave, founded in 10th century and transformed to the most important spiritual and cultural center of Bulgaria. The monastery has unique architecture and is included in the list of UNESCO for its important role of preserving the Bulgarian language and spirituality. Return to Sofia. (B, L)

Day 3  – Sofia – Plovdiv

Departure to Plovdiv. On the way visit the Bachkovo monastery where have been preserved beautiful painting from 1623. In Plovdiv have a walking tour of the Old Town, declared architectural and historical reserve with over 150 monuments of culture. Included is view to the ancient Roman theater, 2nd century and the Roman stadium. Enjoy the beautiful view toards the city from one of the three hills of the Old town. Dinner in a traditional Bulgarian restaurant. (B, D)

Day 4 – Plovdiv – Nesebar

Departure to Nessebar – one of the oldest towns in Europe and undoubted jewel of Bulgaria’s sea coast. Its ancient town has a colorful past and balances it with beaches that shimmer like gold. Wooden houses, cobblestoned streets and Basilicas, all packed onto an island-promontory, it’s the old quarter of Nesseabar today. Time will pass too quickly here as explore churches and museums and enjoy the country’s great-value, appetizing cuisine at the traditional mehanas. (B)

Day 5 – Nesebar -Varna

During the Middle Ages Varna was one of the most important trading and craft centers in the country. Here in 1972 was discovered the oldest man-crafted gold in the world dating to 4200 BC. You can see part of it in the local archaeological museum. Another highlight is the Roman bath complex, the fourth biggest in the Roman Empire, 4th century. (B)

Day 6 – Varna – the Horse of Madara (UNESCO) – Veliko Tarnovo

First stop today is the Horse of Madara, one of the seven UNESCO sites of Bulgaria. It is a bas-relief dating to the 8th century carved into a 100-m-high cliff. Continue to Veliko Tarnovo. Highlight of the day is the Tsarevets fort, a Mediaeval defensive fortress of 10-12 meters high stone walls. Only 4 km from Veliko Turnovo is Arbanassi, a charming village with an eventful history and fascinating architecture. In the evening enjoy the beautiful panorama view from your hotel. (B)

Day 7 – Veliko Tarnovo – Etara – Kazanlak – Koprivshtitsa

Etara is a unique open air crafts museum. Here have been presented crafts that people practiced in the 19th century – cuttlery, wood-carving, icon painting, weaving – in total 22. The trip continues through the Shipka pass. Stopover at the Shipka Memorial Church attracting the visitors with its gold plated shining domes. Next stop is a once in a life time experience – visit one of the Thracian tombs discovered in the area – the Golyamata Kosmatka, dating to the 4th century BC. In the late afternoon continue to Koprivshtitsa. (B, D)

Day 8 – Koprivshtitsa – Sofia

Wake up in a quite house with smell of old wood. Have home made breakfast and stroll on the cobble stone streets of Koprivshtitsa. The village boasts a large number of architectural monuments from the Revival period. Collections of ethnographic treasures, old weapons, National Revival works of art, fine fretwork, household weaves and embroidery, national costumes and typical Bulgarian jewelry has also been preserved. Departure to Sofia. Drop off in your hotel. (B)

Day 9 –Transfer to the Sofia airport for your departure flight. End of service.
